adam666: I have used the Nylon rod in many applications before and have not had any problems with strength. The back (down wind) part of the hub is pressed onto the shaft, that develops an exact copy of the spline and needs a bearing puller to remove it. The front part is threaded onto the F&P shaft thead and done up tight on the prop.

Time will tell if it is strong enough, but I am of the opinion that there will be little load on this component.

The only benefit from using bridge rectifiers instead of diodes is that it is simpler to wire. The drawback is that if only one diode burns out in the bridge rectifier, then the rectifier will cut your current flow by 50%. If you use 3 bridge rectifiers as shown in the arrangement below than your current carrying capacity becomes double. I would bring the three phase output of the F & P stator down the tower and rectify at the base.

Hmm found some lovely SCR's for makin rectifiers out of :)

CR250DP-4-2

400V 250A - and I got a dozen of em for $48
:)

way overkill I know, but they're cheap!

got some other low voltage high amperage experimentin to do
 
also got couple of De Haviland jet alternators (30v 200A) I might look at rectifying soon, depending on how fast I can need to spin em :p

De Haviland jet alternators! Wow. I would like to know more about them. What RPM are they designed for? Do they have permanent magnets? How big are they? Could you takes some pictures and post them?

I am Planning on building an evacuated gas solar thermal rakine turboexpander that is coupled to a high speed alternator.

jeepers! thats a mouthful!

not sure what rpm they run at but will take pics soon.

hell, Im not even sure if they use PM or not....but they weight about 25kg each :)

one needs a couple of brushes repaired, the other just needs a once over and lube.

hope to lube and test one soon!
