Hi,, I think it was some time back ,,, but did anyone have success with the idea of staggered groups of windings for different cut-in voltages and outputs. If so , could you share the results with us ,please. Thanks Bruce Bushboy |

Hey Bruce Yeah that was me. Full thread here http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/forum1/forum_posts.asp?T ID=749&KW=staggered It seams to work fine, cut in speed is about 40RPM, in light winds its making a 1 to 2 amps for most of the day. The tail did furl too early, at around 16 amps. I'm using it now on the new extruded blades, so far its working good though only seen 5 amps to date, really missing out on all the wind lately, even the Southern Cross is struggling to pump any water. Very tempted to fire up the chain saw and cut down a few tree's, but I want to sell the place later this year so need it looking its best. If you have a spare stator I would recommend you try it. Thanks Glenn,, I'm re-wiring a 60 at present,,cold and wet ,,so good to do these things . I will certainly follow your instructions and re-wire a 80 ,and maybe a 100 . Have you found a good wind block yet,,,? Thanks Bruce Bushboy |

OK here's an interesting one. If you were to re-wire 1/2 for star and half for delta would you still need a separate set of rectifiers for the two halves.... The advantages of dual stator with only one stator..... Karl Luck favours the well prepared |

Yes. 2 sets of rectifiers are needed as the delta windings would effectively short the star windings, if connected together. Gordon. become more energy aware |

Sounds like a winner -outside the box a little -I like it! 80 series 1x7c + 1x7c delta. are the 680uf 450V back to back caps on each set still going to work or have I now over capped? Karl Luck favours the well prepared |

I would wire the mill, both windings in delta. Makes better use of the wire to give a lower alternator winding resistance. Cap voltage multipliers take care of the cutin rpm and the low end wind loading while maintaining high performance at the top end with the lowest coil resistance when the current is max. I knew that was coming...... delta 1.7times the cutin, voltage doubler 1/2 the cutin, already ahead so delta is a wise decision. What sort of cutin would you expect? ie windspeed with 2.5m blades and single stator. Luck favours the well prepared |
