Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.
My public report KD 747, in which it is described how a 6-pole asynchronous motor can be transformed into a PM-generator, has been reviewed. A new picture 5 of a 42-pole PM armature turning into a stator housing with 54 slots and so 54 mechanical poles, has been added to chapter 7. Because of this combination of number of armature and stator poles, the generator has 378 very small preference positions per revolution. Therefore it has a very small peak on the cogging torque which results in a low starting wind speed if the generator is used in combination with a wind turbine rotor with a diameter of 5 m and a design tip speed ratio of 6 or 6.5.
