I think there is a bug in the system that when a posted link is pasted into the browser it loops back to the forum index page and not to the link posted. Its done it a few times to me now. Then it might just be me??? Pete. Sometimes it just works |

Hi Pete The forum software puts random hidden characters into every posting. You dont normally see these, except in very very long words, or hyperlinks, where there might be a unexpected space. When you cut and paste the link, the hidden characters can cause problems, an invalid address. If the link was a posting in the forum, the forum cant find a match for the posting, so sends you back to the default page. The random hidden characters are there as part of the forum security system. Basically is stops someone writing a dangerous script instead of a message. Any scripts are filled with random hidden characters, causing them to fail, protecting the database and you guys. I wont turn this function of, the site gets about 50 to 100 attacks per day, including nasty ones like SQL injection attacts. It does mean hyperlinks can be a problem occasionally. Glenn, Thanks, It all makes sense now. There is always something to learn. If a hyperlink is posted to the thread do this get around the problem of hidden characters. Pete. Sometimes it just works |
