For Homemade wind turbines, how to protect them from high wind speed? How to test the strength of the blades? especially for the PVC-made blades.

I heard many commercial wind turbines have an automatic shut down feature to prevent over-speed damage. Can this feature be homemade?
If you are intent to reduce your power bills, why not pay wind power cost?

all depends on the length of the blades, I'd be thinking 2m diameter is about it for PVC blades cut from pipe
Luck favours the well prepared
