yes and no depends on the battery you are trying to fix and how long its been dead.

If you are prepared to get you hands really dirty, there are ways to fix almost anything.

Myself, I would recommend a good start unless they are free in which case if I were desperate I'd give it a go.

Thanks Karl, I won't waste my money on one then. I have 12 batteries that the fellow who owned my shop before left there. I had hung onto them thinking I might break them down and use the lead for fishing weights or something. I have no idea how old they are because I have owned the shop for 8 years. I had thought maybe I could break them down and clean them up and put clean acid in like I read somewhere. Then I ran across this thing on ebay. dang my head is spinning, one more stupid idea down the tubes.

Do a google search on desulphators and you may find the circuit of the one I built from somebody's design after this idea first hit the net. Not really hard to build one if you are OK with electronic parts.
In my case it kind of worked on a small lead acid battery, it may take a rather long time for the big ones.
Your batteries would be too old for me to consider trying.

Please forget the idea about breaking down batteries to recover the lead, its not worth the health risk and the amount of recovered lead is disappointing - been there, done that.

Just google desulfator by Alastair Couper; not hard to build and works on sound battery's left sitting less than a year most of the time.

It takes a lot of time up to a month for full sized battery's.

Have a look here........http://www.alton-moore.net/graphics/desulfator.pdf

I still think your batteries might be too old, What is the voltages at the terminals of them, that should give some idea of where they are at.

Pete, I haven't been able to get over to my shop for a couple of days to check the batteries out. I haven't touched them since I put them on a shelve 8 years ago. so I'm sure they are junk now but hey I thought it might be worth a try.

Sonny,

I intend to build the alton desulfator when i round up the inductors, to see what effect it has on a not so old but lazy car battery kicking around here.
I left the battery sit for 12 months and now its shagged.
Figure nothing ventured nothing gained.

From reading the spill with the above circuit it might take a month to get any real results back, but will keep you informed.
Still got to build it first.

Pete.
