Hello,
I didn't spend much time looking through the site but I did see something on TV about them. I put it into the gimmick category. I imagine hundreds of cheap plastic gears would make quite a howling clacking noise.
The gen is only rated for 2.8 amps so if you run it into a 12V battery the most you can hope to see is about 35 watts. Can't do much with that.
If you are truly cash strapped and want to get the most from your money I would recommend solar.

A gimmick? Possibly not. Quirky, Yes!

But then a wind system (the 11 turbines with water pump)that can pump from 150 metres down must be able to generate some serious amount of energy?

Suggest you give some estimate of power needs to get meaningful responses.

Do you want it on or off grid generation?Edited by neil0mac 2010-03-10

i like it but I think realistically you need the 2000 mini fan model!!!

seriously it is a good idea but i dont think its really capable, one of those things you need to see to believe

I feel they have their place and far from a gimmick.

They are not in the same field as a pole mounted wind turbine.

We often get people here wanting to build a mill to take camping and these gadgets would suit the application well.

I think they would also work quite well in turbulent air where a standard mill wont.

They would also look neat in council parks for lighting along with the other crazy plaground equipment and art expressions.

Just maybe not a back yard full of them.

Pete.

Sometimes it just works
