Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Magus

In the past I have used a 3 phase motor as an alternator by connecting AC caps across the windings and that induces an excitation into the windings DC superimposed on the AC, it did work but wasn't very stable voltage wise and took a spark up to start it working, it was in an old book I had and I think the caps I had weren't the right value. I have seen a commercial alternator using this method it had 3 caps in the terminal box, but no value markings. When it loads up it becomes more stable.

All the best

Hi Magus

Yes we're going to need a lot more infomation. You question is like asking how long a piece of string is.

There are many different types of electric motors, some can be used as alternators, some as generators, and some wont work as anything other than a motor. We would need to kow what sort of motor it is before giving a answer.

What did you want to use the motor for?

These days we should be consulting our esteemed Chinese guru 'How Long' to answer this thread.......
