Just thinking about when I get to mount my turbine (when it's finished). The traditional method involves a post in the middle of nowhere with guide ropes etc. Just wondering about the option of using a post that is part of a veranda? The post will be 8mtr tall and stick up above the roof by 2.5mtr and will be on the side of the house with the prevailing wind. Has anyone done this? Any advice? Does anyone know how bad vibrations are? Can you get around the problem with rubber block mounting?

Hi Mick

How thick is the post and how big is your turbine?

Different alternators have different vibrations. A F&P makes a lot of vibration, and is not a good choice for mounting to a building you want to live in, the drone will drive you mad. AC servo motors or treadmill motors have virtually no vibration, so would be fine.

Rubber mounts do help a little, but not enough in my experience.

90mm RHS post, haven't finished turbine yet, but planning on a dual 80S stator low wind model so I guess 1.5m ish blades (very technical ;)

Forget the building for the F&P Agreed.

That said the 90mm RHS will do if the wall thickness is 5mm or better.

Guy ropes from about 2m down from the top (so the blades clear)

I myself an a fan of Bore Casing material
9mm thick is std.
Bottom section is give or take 5.5m long (takes at least 2 people better with 4 to lift)
put 1.5m in a cubic metre of concrete in the ground.
Bolt next section another 5.5m long at ~half its length giving a total height of about 7m. Swings down for work on the turbine and requires no guy ropes.

Can be done for $7-800 with a little scrounging (mine was purchased so was more like $1300 inc the concrete
