On my way to Thredbo yesterday i noticed two large turbines and just had to go and have a look. I spoke with one of the owners and they are 10kw. At $63,000 each i think i would have put in a 5kw turbine and spent the rest on a solar array. Either way they look good and will make people think about generating their own power.

If it's a 20 foot turbine then I'd say from a guess 50 foot tower and if it's 32 foot turbine then probably around 75 feet tall.

Just guessing though....

Hi Cam

There should be more of this around as it is a step in the right direction, and I agree that the solar is essential as well from experience with the wind it cannot be relied on a lot of the time.

I noticed a 10kw solar system returning 60kw a day on the average being marketed now so its a 26% return on investment at bulk feed back tariff. Not a bad little business when you compare with other forms of investment, certainly better than Super that the funds mismanage and fritter away on tour behalf then charge you to do it, dream dream.

All the best

The towers were about 10m - 12m high , The first one was turning the last one (photo) wasn't. I thought they looked like exmorks aswell, the controllers were windy boy (sunny boy related i presume).

They were getting 63c / kw.

Cam.

Would have been nice to invite them onto Glenn's web site.. People like this could really help in advancing wind power with real seat -of - the - pants information,in the real world...

If , by chance, they do watch this site ,,please join us ...

Yes i would estimate the blades are 5m diameter.

The pole is two 6m sections so the blades appear to be 3m long each.

Hi Cam

That is a serious turbine/s it would be interesting to have a cost recovery plan to see how viable these big / small turbines are for private ownership.

All the best
