Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

which shape is better? iv seen tapered blades and iv seen non tapered blades, why have the blades tapered? why not have them tapered? what is the overall story behind it?
the blades on my windmill are probably around the number 3 type tapering.
the big windmills that produce megawatts have tapered blades.
this guys blades arent tapered.

i asked him about it and he didnt seem to know.
any info would be apreciated
add; if i have 2 blades instead of 3, but with the 2 blades having an extra half of a blade of surface area each, will that give it the same as having 3 blades?

G'day Makourain I think the main reasons for a tapered blade is 1: for blade strength as there is less force further out from the blade root thus less stress, 2: A tapered blade can achieved a greater tip speed ratio and 3: tapered blades are supposed reduce overall noise. I found a website a while ago, u may have seen it but its all about blade design, it goes into some pretty heavy math but if u skim over that u can pickup some fairly useful stuff about all aspects of small turbine blade design. Here is the link http://users.aber.ac.uk/iri/WIND/TECH/WPcourse/index.html&nb sp; By the way I built a set of blades from aluminium and folded them up and they are about 3 on your scale of taper and they seem to go well, hope the site will be helpful."Do, or do not... There is no try."
