I made it up to the cabin last week
and mounted the new blades on the
existing motor.
The winds came with a front that went through.
This isn't the motor I made the blades for but
had to try them out on the motor I have had in
use for over 10 years before changing to an un-
tested motor.
With the larger rotor it started in the lite
breezes like I was looking for. But was furling
at around 25 amps. So I have to make the tail
heavier to use on this motor.
I want to see how the new motor will work so I'm
going to leave the tail lite for now and just
swap the motors.
Bye the way the 6'rotor and motor combo worked
way beyond my expectations on my test stand.
I think I got them matched nicely. I was seeing
25 amps out of it and it's only 8 feet off the ground.

Did I mention already that you have a gorgeous spot up there? Yeah I guess I did but I can't help repeating myself.
You're doing the opposite of what I'm about to do: I have a new generator but haven't made new blades, yet. So I've fit the 8-foot blades onto the new genny, even though they aren't really big enough to run it properly.
Just for comparison's sake. Steven T. Fahey |

As summer is approaching would you feel that you need a
pair of sunglasses for protecting your eyes from UV? Maybe
you need a pair of (LINK REMOVED) Ray Ban Sunglasses[/URL] . It not only helps you to create
fashionable image but also protects your eyes.

They say there is a pot of gold at one end of the rainbow and a baby at the other.
My luck would not be the pot of gold
I second the nice spot view.
Bugger the windmill lets look at the view

Motor? Please expand on your generator. Is it a d.c. motor being powered by the wind or an alternator? Is it a treadmill motor? What?
I'm sure others will be just as curious as I am.
Thanks,
Pete
An American piano player named Biff Rose wrote a song back in the late 60's and the lyrics were something like, "At the end of the rainbow, I just know there's pot . . . . and I hear it's gold!"
. . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy!
Perhaps better stated in the words of Morgan Freeman,
"Where there is no struggle, there is no progress!"

But at the end of the rainbow is a leprechaun who holds the pot of gold. Now one can only guess what an Irishman would do if you tried to take that pot of gold off him...... |

mac- i've chatted with fish a few times about turbines, and i'm pretty sure this is on one of his 3 phase servo motors. pacific scientific, allen bradley, or fanuc. only reason i remember this is because i've been (slowly) building a mill from a fanuc motor myself. these servos, if you find a good one, are ready made small producers, with magnets already in them. it's like a half step between a treadmill motor and a axial flux.
fish- correct me if i'm wrong!

Well Adam in my opinion the AC servo motors are
far more superior to the axial flux design.
They are state of the art alternators. The
best magnets, tight tolerance, beefy bearings,
windings that don't burn out and a sealed housing.
All the work that people do is unnecessary.
They Are what people are trying to build.
My siemens servo motor has been pumping out the power
for over 10 years with no issues at all. I don't
think it will ever wear out. I've seen it peg the meter
at 100 amps and do 65 amps all day long. I play with
different props to see if I can do better but I guess
that's the addiction we all have.
So finally I have a decent tower up to experiment with
all the other motors I have been buying up. I passed on
one yesterday on ebay. It didn't even sell. $9.95 brand
new. 20amp fanuc 2000rpm 140 volt perfect for 14 volts
at 200 rpm and 20+ + + amps. I hate to see them go for so
cheep. That's why I try to get the word out. I have too
many for my life time.
I have carved 4 blade sets in the past month to match up
to particular motors and hopefully I'll get a chance to
fly them all soon.
I was very impressed with the last 6'er and a Yaskawa servo
motor. I have a lot of them in the 20 amp model. It seems
a great match to a 6' props I have been building. 500 watt
units for dirt cheep. It just takes the time to put it all
together. I must say the tower is the hardest component to
make with a wind turbine. |

Well fish (' '
I bought a motor off ebay it was all in German, But the price and shipping were right so I bought it when I seen the mail lady put it in my box I thought something was wrong I picked up the box and I thought he forgot to put the motor in as it didn't weight any thing but when I opened the box it was in there 2x2 x6 inches!!
Would make a mini if it has some output. Seems to be well made.
Better look closer next time' '.
Shorting across the 3 phase posts it dose not show much out put So Ill probably scrap it out and try again or go to all solar ' ' URL=http://www.motherearthnews.com/Renewable-Energy/1973-11- 01/The-Plowboy-Interview.aspx>The Plowboy Interview[/URL> |
