Just some photos for now, but the new VAWT is taking shape. Height is 1200mm and diameter is 1300mm. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Thats similar to my idea i had... Just a question though. How do you support it up the top? Do you run a 2nd bearing support up the top then go around the VAWT back to your stand? |

Hi Chris. Answer.. I dont. The bearing at the bottom is a heavy duty beast, and the shaft is 33mm diameter thick wall pipe. I'll also add some bracing around the F&P bearing plate. It will be strong enough to not need the top bearing, hopefully. Time will tell. I should have it up in the air this weekend. .....I envy those with a welder. Thats looking real neat Glenn. Can't wait to hear the results. BTW, can't tell by the image, did you decog yours? Also, how do you plan to adjust the angle of the wing - if you need to? Greg Greg Just North of Brisbane in Redcliffe OZeTrade.net |

My dad has a welder but he wont let me use it... so he does all my welding... might be getting a mig off my grandpa tho. Is that bearing at the bottom just the normal one that is used in the HAWT? |

Hey Greg. No its not decogged, hopefully the vawt will have enough torque and I wont have to. The "wings" angle is adjustable by 8 degrees. Eds design calls for 9 degrees, so miine can be adjusted from 5 to 13. Hey Chris. Mig is the way to go. I converted mine to gasless and run flux wire. The welds are messy to look at, but ok once you clean the flux off. The bearing is bigger than the one I used for the HAWT windmill. This one has an internal diameter of 35mm, and I made up some shims to suit the 33mm shaft. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
