I stumbled across this web site about the Hepburn community wind farm, and I cant remember where I got the link from, if it was posted here at TheBackShed or somewhere else? But anyway, after looking throught the web site, I think it might be a significant step in the right direction.

http://www.hepburnwind.com.au/index.htm

Basically, the people of Hepburn have decided to buy a couple of 2MW wind turbines. They have set the project up as a company, and have almost fully financed it with shareholder, government and Bendigo Bank support. Community winds farms are not new globaly, but this would be a first for Australia. Good on them

Also of interrest, I've been in contact with a local developer who is looking into purchasing 1 or more refurbished 300KW turbines to set up on his property, and feed power back into the grid. Like a lot of us, he likes the idea of clean power, the only differenece is he has the resources to go BIG. Will keep you posted on how he goes.

Hi Glen

Good to see private entities trying to do something the government is a farce with their incentives as there isnt any excess power to be fed into the grid from their sponsored systems, I am looking at solar feed as I have 300 sq meters of shed roofs available at the moment aqnd later a couple of 5 kw tracker arrays.
Since I lost my nest egg in the recent melt down it will be slow going as I now haveto build the panels myself.

The projections on return at grid feed tarif is about 18% for a self build and maintain system including 100 kw battery storage, better and more interesting than investment on the open market.
