Its that time of year again.... This year, Earth Hour is on Saturday 27th March at 8:30PM. ![]() During Earth Hour, people throughout Australia and around the world will turn off their lights for one hour to send a powerful message to global leaders that we need action on climate change, now. Earth Hour is all about showing that together we can make change. We are each "just one person", but together we are powerful. http://www.earthhour.org.au/ Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Gizmo, I don't want to get into politics here but, have you not seen all the information that has come out lately about all the false data on global warming. It's all been a hoax from the start. Even the so called scientist that first put the data out there says there has been NO warming at all since 1995 as a mater of fact it has cooled a little. I'm not saying we should not do all that we can to preserve our planet. I just think we should all back off and take a better look at what it is we can do. I'm not building a turbine to save the planet, I am doing it because I find it very interesting. I have been getting the impression from this and other web sites that like myself, many others are just doing this as a hobbie. I also think those who are very serious about wind and solar power are doing it more for the money they will save, rather then saving the planet. Just my two cents Hope I haven't offended anyone. Some of us do it out of necessity. I don't build turbines for fun. I don't "tinker" with 2KW (soon to be 4KW) of PV for entertainment. I do it because I simply can't get power the last 245 metres from the lines, to my place. Not because it's difficult technically, but because of bloody politicians and their stupid ideas. $100,000 odd to get power 245m? Come on...! And before you say "my choice to live there" - we checked BEFORE buying, and power had been surveyed, quoted and was all ready to go - just that politicians (and others) seem incapable of keeping their word - after construction had begun and we have the power company the go-ahead was when the dramas started. So here we are - Wind, solar and a propane-powered generator. Probably a better outcome in the end, not being done for the money we'll save, or to save the planet, or as a hobby... just as a necessity, and I'm certainly not the only one. |

Ross, Please don't take what I said the wrong way. This is the reason I said I didn't want to get into politics. We here in the states are doing our best to keep the government out of our lives. Like right now they are trying to shove government controlled health care down our throats. And lying to us about it all the while. From some of the things I have read that have been posted by you fellows down under, your government is much worse then ours when it comes to controlling just about everything you do. And if I were in your shoes I would be doing the same thing you are and telling the government to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. a complete novice |

One thing I want to avoid on this site is a discussion about global warming. We might as well discuss if there is a god or not. Fact is the world governments have mostly accepted human caused global warming is a real problem, so we might as well accept its going to be part of our lives, even if we dont believe it. Just like religion, if a law was created due to some religious believe, then we have to abide by the law even if we dont believe. So everyone please refrain from the global warming debate. It wont achieve anything other that make forum members irate. Just adding Sonny, dont be afraid of a government run hospital system. Here in Australia anyone, rich or poor, can go to a hospital and be treated. I wouldnt give that up for anything. I was taught in a government school, had my appendix removed in a government hospital and once worked for a government operated communication company. I consider it a good thing. I consider it a good thing.[quote/] Glenn, We already have health care for everyone, all you have to do is walk into any hospital. rich, poor or otherwise you get health care. the problem with it is those of us who have insurance pay much larger premiums because we are already paying for those who don't have insurance. government anything is never run near as well as the privet sector can. when you have politicians involved there is always corruption and mismanagement. We look at things a bit different then you folks seem to. Government can't give you what they don't have. Government can do nothing without our tax dollars and I'm sure your country is the same way. The problem here is we like to keep what we work for and not give it to those who don't. Oh and one other thing about health care. Canada has the same type health care you do, yet many of those who can afford it come to the states. As a mater of fact one of the top politicians from Canada came to the states for heart bypass surgery and he is catching hell for it back home. He says when he was elected didn't mean he had to settle for inferior health care. I know of several people I know from Canada who do the same thing. a complete novice |
