Hear Hear

And she uses solar and wind power as well, what an achievement it just shows that some young people have still got the guts to have a go instead of playing shoot em up computer games.

Before I start Bad mouthing a well meaning group. I have a Question for anyone who is informed on the rules of this Event.
Question; Was the age rule in effect when Jessica Set Sail? , if not I plan to send
that organization a note.

I understand the age Issue, no one wants 7 year olds taking up the challenge of a solitary ocean voyage.
The evening news mentioned Jessica's completion of the event and said she was disqualified for age limitations.
However it is, Double THUMBS UP To a Champion.

EDIT' Thanks Glen for an interesting Link, Will read it all when I get the time. Edited by Greenbelt 2010-05-17

Since when is a personal challange an EVENT??????

There is always a stick in the mud when someone undertakes a challange.

Well Greenbelt you just won the stick in the mud award.

Pete;
Well I finally got some recognition , I was a Nuby, Groupie, senior, and now a stick in the mud. Sounds better than a lot of titles i've held.
Web definitions for event
something that happens at a given place and time
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn - Definition in context

Niel Armstrong set foot on the moon. Walter Cronkite (newsman) said: The greatest event ever witnessed by Mankind.
I tend to think , the word (event, is past tense. and the def, above is present tense.
Must be the geography of my childhood.

Question; Was the age rule in effect when Jessica Set Sail? , if not I plan to send that organization a note.

Edit; IF the Age Rule was on the books when Jessica Launched, then I have no reason to complain, If the rule was added while she was at Sea then this becomes a very unfair situation.

What I mean by 7 year olds is. It would be murder to permit young children to participate as Members in this Yacht club or what ever you call it. Edited by Greenbelt 2010-05-18

My 2c
all skill, heroism and achievement aside.

Plenty of fine sailors have lost their lives at sea.....
take the Sydney-Hobart a couple of years ago.

I had a friend who did it (not that year) who was lookout in the middle of the night on the bow of the boat in basically smooth sailing....the night sky went dark, he thought to himself "we'll thats odd, everything has gone black"
within a couple of seconds he was glad he was tied to the boat as he was swept over the side by a huge wave (the cause of the darkness). Needless to say he wasn't interested in a second Syd-Hob race.

So, yep -shes a "hero", many of other "heroes" have needed to be rescued in the southern Ocean by our Navy at GREAT expense to the taxpayer.

Plenty of luck involved!
Luck favours the well prepared

I followed Jessica daily and was glad to see her make it home, apart from her obvious skills the yacht played a very large part, BUT now they have on offer a personally sighed framed pic of her yacht, for wait for it $1299 GST incl.

Sorry to say I choked on my scotch when I read that, I thought it was a dream she had!

One guessing she needs to pay to get the barnicals off the boat somehow.

Beside's if you can afford scotch than the framed photo should be no problem.

With all the money other sportsman make, if the girl can make a dollar while the fame lives than GOOD on her, as i think she has earnt the right.

I think she has done what many only wish they had the testicals to do.

GO JESSICA.

Pete, while I enjoy reading your posts I have also noted that your avatars are changing to the worse by the day.
With these jumping, blinking and flashing distractions in the corner of my eye your writings do not get the full attention they may deserve.

How about some sanity in the avatar choice? I'm aware you are not the only supporter of 'distracting' avatars on this forum, I hope it was not a case of "monkey see, monkey do".
