Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

For most of last week and this weekend I could not access this forum. I received a message page stating that my IP was banned. This morning I could access it again (hence this topic).
Any particular reason why I was black balled? Was it something I said or did?

Hi Grub

Nah, that was my fault.

There have been more than the usual amount of hacking attempts on the site recently, about 200 per day are logged, mostly from China, Korea and east Europe. Whenever I see a hack attempt, I block the IP range ( using a 225.225.225.0 subnet for the tech savy ). Last week was a bad week, mostly from China, in anger I blocked the entire 115.*.*.* range, thinking it was reserved for Asia.

However on Saturday I got a email from a forum member asking why he was blocked. He was in New Zealand! I looked further into is, and it looks like NZ also share the 115 ip range So I unblocked it. It was my fault.

Should be right now.

I hope you mean 255.255.255.0, although most of us refer to that just as /24

Ahh yeah, your right, typo, 255.255.255.0, or FF.FF.FF.00

And there I was thinking that it was the way I parted my hair.
I figured that something happened but I did not have an email address to post to with a query. If it had kept up I would have tried a different computer on Monday but I was allowed back in so that did not happen.
Hats off to Gizmo for not blowing his stack more often under such irritating conditions.
