hello all-

gizmo- i've already posted this to fieldlines.com, but wanted to post here as well and ask for permission to provide links to this site.

a friend of mine, greg price is the president of OSWEA (oregon small wind energy association).

greg invited me to an OSWEA weekend training course which i really enjoyed. the entrance fee for this course is normally around $400 USD. my entrance fee, is to write an article for the OSWEA website based on home brew wind turbines. i know i am not the ideal candidate to write such an article, seeings as i have only built one 8.5' mill that i have not yet tested. however, i will do my best to cover (mostly smaller, and easily achievable) home made wind turbines.

questions:
is it an issue to provide links to this site for various discussions that i feel are good reads? copyright?

who was the first to rough out blades with a chainsaw? and was it documented on this site? guessing it was oztules, but unsure. *(covered)*

is it an issue to link to any website via copyright?

did Zubbly do the first motor conversion?

would anyone be willing to proof read my drafts? not for grammar, but technical correctness? (actually both)

i'm still getting started and only have a few pages thus far, but i want to do the best, most honest job i can to give creative folk a good starting point to build something that will actually work. i'd also like to dissolve some myths about small wind.

i just wanted to let all ya'all know i am writing this thing. i want this site to look good, and to promote some other sites, and don't want to have any incorrect information published on the OSWEA site.

thanks for all replies!

adam

Hi Adam

Fist up, links back to my site are more than welcome. Links affect something called Page Rank, the higher the page rank, the better, it means search engines rate your web site better with more relevant searches, so yes, please feel free to link to any article or forum post on this site.

Copyright is a more difficult thing to define when it comes to sites like this. Its not a good idea to copy/repost an article or members post word for word, or picture. That will get you into trouble. But its OK to "quote" part of an article or post, or picture, so long as you mention where you got it from. Credit where credit due, and most people wont mind if you quote them, so long as you mention your sources.

Yes the chainsaw blades idea was Oz's. He posted the instructions on here and on the Fieldlines site. Here ( thebackshed ) was the first place to put it all into a article ( http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/articles/ChainsawBlades. asp), with Oz's permission and help. I think its also published in a few other places now, and there are some YouTube videos that show the process.

I dont think Zubby was the first to do a motor conversion, but he sure did perfect it. He developed many of the techniques, and shared a lot of info on motor conversions, and will be remembered for it.

I can proof read if you like, but its a good idea to get a couple of proof readers.

One thing I should mention. I've leant that most idea's have been thought of before, or at the same time by different people. When I first started playing around with the F&P smartdrive as a windmill alternator, I though I was the only one. I soon discovered dozens of others had also been experimenting with the F&P at about the same time, give or take a few years, all indepentenly of eachother, without been aware of eachother. There were two others withing 10km of me at the time ( Trev and Andy ), building their own windmills based on the F&P. What I'm trying to say, is sometimes its not a good idea to say so and so came up with the idea of using this for that, chances are someone else had the idea first. The F&P is a prime example, no one person can be credited with using a F&P washing machine motor on a windmill for the first time.

The only exception I think is Oz's chainsaw blades, only Oz could come up with that one
