Very sad to hear about the events in Japan. I've visited Japan, a beautifull country, and even though they are a very efficient and proud bunch, this will be hurting them.

I also hear the wave reached parts of the west USA coast, causing damager to boats in port.

Inspirational!.......

The Picture of gaping chasms in a Japanese road demonstrated the power of the March 11 earthquake. Now the astonishing speed of reconstruction highlights Japan’s ability to get back on its feet.
Work began on March 17 and six days later, the cratered section of the Great Kanto Highway in Naka was as good as new and ready to re- open to traffic

10 things to learn from Japan

1. THE CALM. Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been elevated.
2. THE DIGNITY. Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

3. THE ABILITY. The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn’t fall.

4. THE GRACE. People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.

5. THE ORDER. No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.

6. THE SACRIFICE. Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid?

7. THE TENDERNESS. Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak .

8. THE TRAINING. The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that. .

9. THE MEDIA. They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

10. THE CONSCIENCE. When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly

Pass this to everyone you know, at least some will follow. It is worth sharing with Friends......

COULD YOU IMAGINE A REPAIR LIKE THIS IN AUSTRALIA, IN LOTS OF PLACES OUR ROADS ARE STILL IMPASSABLE WITH A LOT LESS INITIAL DAMAGE THAN THIS ONE.

The images are actually in reverse. Which means that yes, they're fake. If you ask anyone in construction about the damage shown in that picture, he'll tell you that six days is just not enough for that level of repair.

I do however, agree with your points about the Japanese response.
