Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Those of us on sat TV in the bush will find we will have to chuck out our sat decoders when HD TV comes in with VAST (Viewer Access Sat. TV) and pay an extra $270 for a new sat decoder.

Silicon Chip tells me we are going to get 17 digital channels:

HD: One, Nine, Seven, SBS, ABC News
SD: Regional Local News ABC1, Imparja, Nine, SBS1, Southern Cross 7,Ten,ABC2,3, GO!,SBS2,7 Two, ONE.

Those in the bush on Optus Aurora will know all this but possibly not the following:

Sen. Conroy has indicated a subsidy BUT the catch is the following: Only those on the MAX. gov. benefit (carer, pension, war service, etc.) will get a free VAST installation. Read the fine print that taketh away!

As Optus demands an annual fee of about $20,000 from the manufacturer of the new sat decoders, there is so far only one supplier holding a monopoly position, namely UEC (Hill).

There is the question why our politicians have allowed Free To Air (FTA) transmissions to be encrypted. Pay TV by all means but FTA?
Taxation as a means of achieving prosperity is like a man standing inside a bucket trying to lift himself up.
