The latest SC magazine is out. Some interesting projects. There's even a Maximite article in the Circuit Notebook section, a stepper motor driver. Leo Simpson's Publishers Letter started off good too, some down to earth views of the current economic situation in the USA and Europe. Then it went downhill as usual, with Leo raving on about global warming and the carbon tax. Look I honestly think its time he took his postition as a publisher of a electronics magazine seriously and at least try to keep his personal believes to himself. So far we know he's pro nuclear, anti wind turbine, pro coal, anti global warming, etc. Eventually he will get on the wrong side of everyone who reads the magazine. As a publisher of a electonics magazine that seams to get thinner every month, he should be having a look at his position and not use his magazine as a soap box. I know of several forum members who will no longer buy the magazine or write content for it because of Leo's attitude. The Publishers Letter should be about industry news, changes to the magazine, etc. It should never be used to promote a personal view on a off subject topic. It's a bit sad to say but I can't justify buying it anymore. Allan "I like this place and willingly could waste my time in it" - (Act II, Scene IV). |

Oh dear Oh dear sounds familiar, but everybody is worried about the situation as we wait in expectation of smart politicians to come up with a solution, not another money making scheme. I personally have stopped buying it because it has degenerated into a add paper they expect us idiots to pay for with just enough information to supposedly keep your interest. Gizmo, Using the editorial column as a personal soapbox is Aussie tradition, don't mess with it. After all, what's the point of having power if you can't abuse it? ![]() Rob unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep |

Yes, he seems to be pro-nuclear and this might just be part of his privilege as the editor to push his own agenda. The ads are a nuisance as in most PC/electronics magazines. What I hope is that the infrasound allegations get researched properly so that there are fewer objections to mills from his and other sides. What I read before in the Scientifc American is that one early researcher into the military applications of infrasound died because his blood vessels dilated and burst in resonance from the high-powered infrasound and there is a rumour claiming the British Army used infrasound in Ireland to force demonstrators to become violent and then have a reason to act ("agent provocateur"). Taxation as a means of achieving prosperity is like a man standing inside a bucket trying to lift himself up. Winston Churchill |
