Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Glenn, I see many new topics on "New Motors". The same stuff seems to be raised again and again. The induction motor usefulness/conversion sort of info has been covered already. Is there a problem with new members not being able to search past threads for info, so they feel the need to start a new topic. Maybe there should be a motor conversion sub heading. There are 5 motor topics on the windmill heading top page at the moment. I think that once a motor conversion or motor enquiry has been used successfully on a windmill, then windmill related it may be. Gordon. become more energy aware |

I'll second the motion After reading Gizmo's recent discovery, thoughts of my motor conversion came back in my head. . If a new topic is created maybe we could tempt Dinges to throw together a thread with all the decent info he has supplied over the years and that could become a sticky so new comers have a starting point and maybe to could save alot of useless 'can I use this motor' threads. Just my 2.2 cents Cheers Bryan |

I'm listening. You have to be careful not to offer too many choices. While choice is good, too much choice creates confusion and can reduce postings. If we have an area for alternators(motor conversions, F&P, steppers, etc), how would this affect the current windmill section. How would a newbie know to look in the windmill section for older alternator infomation. Let me have a think about it, but keep posting your thoughts. Another forum I look at had an "automagic" feature that poped up and showed you pre-existing threads containing what it thinks your new thread is about thus steering you to the old threads first. You can start a new thread but the list of old ones poped up first. They'v now made that feature optional rather than on by default. The old threads poped up in the same frame. I think it was done with java script. |

Hi gizmo, another topic started on windmills thread re equations. A mention of windmill seems to make it OK! This is another example of clutter confusing a thread. This should have been in other stuff, or at least somewhere else, maybe rants and raves. This serves no purpose as a topic under windmills. I know there is no moderator as such on this forum and the onus is on the poster to get it right. There will always be some cross thread comments within a thread that contaminate a good thing. I have myself added references to other threads within a topic, but the starting of new topics in a poor choice of subject is becoming boring. Hopefully these topics in question filter rapidly to the bottom and off the screen. BTW, searching this forum will still find relevant info on older topics in other threads. Having more choice of subjects will not necessarily solve the problem, as some people don't have a good look at things before posting. I see there was a new member, something re viagra. not sure how that occurred. Gordon. become more energy aware |
