Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I was reading a post by Ross W where he said someone had ripped off some solar panels and the local constabulary was apathetic at best. Here's a joke I heard somewhere that deals with Ross's situation quite nicely:
An elderly gentleman was retiring for the night when he noticed a light on in his shed. He asked his wife if she'd been out there and she said no, so he just watched for a few seconds. Soon, he was able to see at least two men inside his shop, apparently robbing him, so without further a-du he rang up the local police department.
"Hello, I think someone is robbing my tools from my shed. Can you please send an officer right away to help me?"
"I'm sorry, all of our officers are busy." With that, dismayed, he simply hung up his phone and waited two minutes, then called the police station back and said, "Sorry to bother you. I'm the fellow whose shed is being robbed, but you needn't worry about it, I shot and killed them both." and he hung up.
Within less than a minute several squad cars, an ambulance and two fire trucks roared up to his front yard. An officer leaped out of his car, lights still flashing and ran into the shed, where he apprehended the two thieves. Several minutes later, the officer confronted the home owner saying, "I thought you said you shot and killed the burglars; what's up with that?
The old man retorted, "And I thought you said you were busy!"
Next time I need a cop in a hurry, I'll try to remember this little tale.

A friend of ours saw some young people trying to set light to a car in paddock near his place so he called the police. The police basicly said that they would not come so he called the fire brigade to report a burning car (had not caught fire at this time). They turned up just as the car did catch fire catching the fire bugs red handed. Police had to act then.
