Well its that time of the year again, where's that Santa hanging off the windmill pic, ah, here it is.... ![]() Well I've finally sold my place. Didn't get what I wanted, but you never do. Its a relief to have it sold though, the last year paying rent on one place and the mortgage on another has taken its toll financially. I was paying more in rent, mortgage, insurance, bills etc than I was earning, so it was a tough year ![]() Next year will be better. I can start looking for my new home, a place with lots of open space to raise a windmill tower or several ![]() I can also put more time into my hobbies and interests. I've been virtually absent from this forum the last year, so that will change. I want to tweak the forum, get it running smoother and more informative, and add more grass roots projects to the web site. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to the forum over the last year. We have a lot more members with interesting projects on the go this year, its good to see the fresh idea's on the forum. It doesn't matter how big or small your project is, its the fun and satisifaction you get out of it that matters. So from myself, the cat, and the dog, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Good on you Glenn, for this great wind, solar, electrics club. All the best to you and everyone. Me too, have been scarce on here. I thought going back teaching would give me more spare time. This year has been exceptionally busy though, mainly with the new Trade Traing Centre. Moving all tools / equipment / machines / materials etc and setting up in the new centre. Searching, sourcing, buying and setting up new machinery. Building storage walls / racks / covers & guards / welding bays / new work benches / machine tool trolley cabinets. There was so much to do. I cast 40 belt buckles for yr 12 students and others. I have also shifted my foundry and renovated that space for Live by Nature health clinic. Concreted & tiled floor, changed tin shutters to sliding glass windows, pine tongue & groove wall lining and ceiling, changed roll-a-doors to sliding glass and mini orb the rest of the front. Fit toilet and shower (shower yet to fibreglass and tile). Make fibreglass septic tank. Make hand basin cabinet and do all the plumbing & drainage. Make reception table, consultation table, display shelving and storage cupboard. This was the first year for ECOEXPO too. I will eventually get back to windmills. I bought magnets quite some time ago, like over a year ago , for an axial flux. I did start in the September school holidays, but have lacked spare time ever since. Well thats it, a busy year in a nutshell. May next year be better for everyone. Edit: I did get the WarP 11 in my EV too. I need to get some performance data in the EV pages sometime. Merry Christmas to all my reminder is for all to keep safe..... We were doing the right thing getting driven home from the BHP Christmas party at the Burswood Casino here in Perth -very well plastered indeed.... when to my horror the stupid driver nailed the throttle when the light went amber -we were turning right Bloke travelling the opposite direction also thought the same and accellerated to beat the light. Result was an offset head on collision with an impact of 80 (them) and 30km/hr (us) to say it was a mess was an understatement with 7/9 persons going away in an ambulance. the wife and i literally walked away with a couple of bruises (me) and scratch (wife). Took 4 hrs to clean up the mess on the Great Eastern Highway. Just a reminder it can all be over very quickly indeed. Keep safe and if someone takes note and drives a little safer then great Karl Luck favours the well prepared |

Merry Xmas. Newbie here. Discovered the topic around Yagi antennas for Next G. This has interest for me as I'm 20km from Telstra's repeater in rural NSW (home is Sydney). I get one or two lights out of three, with the BigPond Elite 3GWB21 modem, but never three so far. I'm getting -43dBm according to my Wicd app in Ubuntu. So I'm attempting to build one of the Yagis mentioned in a few posts; one's at perite.com but there's another interesting antenna described as a 'biquad' built and sold in NSW. The website's at www.broadbandantennas.com.au. It's expensive and the guts are covered up in a black box. I wonder if there's a design out there for a biquad Next G antenna for a home build that can operate around that 900MHz frequency. There are heaps of 'wireless' biquads for picking up Access Points, but none seem to deal with Telstra's mobile broadband frequencies. Many posts mention 2.4GHz, but isn't that the wireless signal from the modem or Access Point? All the best.
