Is anyone here in to weather stations? I assume that fits in with the whole wind turbine/geek technology thing? I had a look around and couldn't see a weather station section.

I just got one from ebay, mainly for the windspeed information, and if i should bother getting a wind turbine for home.

It seems to be working well, and so far i'm getting 12 to 20kph winds, at Redcliffe Qld, on a normal calm day.

I have the WH3081.

Hi Slippery

I also have one of the ebay units and while it leaves a few things to be desired compared to a more professional one, it is a good assessment tool for local conditions, mine is a bit hard on batteries in the transmitter and prone to drooping out during electrical storms, requiring a removal of the batteries and re installing to reset the weather head.

All in all it is worth the effort and has made some usable graphs.

ahh ok, i'll keep an eye out for the battery issue.

I did want to get one of the Lacrosse Pros, but they are around $500 AU from ebay.com.au, but under $200 from ebay.com (US), wierd. ... so yeah i thought i'd start with a cheapy at $165.

My tower/mast is pretty easy to drop down and do the battery reset thing, just a 6m water pipe tied to the carport support.

Hi Slippery

You got it worked out mate, now all you have to do is save a copy of the wind reading on a weekly basis for a while so you got a record, set it up to read MS as that is a better indication of what you are getting.
