Very clever. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

I saw for the first time a GUI (graphical user interface) on a painting program for ZX-Spectrum computer. Menus, windows, mouse pointer (even if it was driven by keyboard) - I was delighted. From there, I was able to adapt fast to any graphical interface. I can work with any kind of operating system - I like them, is a hobby to me. After familiarizing with a new system, I start working to make it usable for me: workflow, development chain, etc. And this is possible on all operating systems thanks to freeware tools and applications. I believe those are what make an operating system useful. But I don't like where they are heading today. I don't like social at operating system level, not matter about what system. Social means anything but privacy. And definitely, Ubuntu (10.10) is heading that way with his GNOME desktop. Yes, you can install another Window Manager, another instant messenger, another firewall, etc. but I'm afraid modifications are and will go deeper. The rule is (and will remain) to work on an offline computer and use another for Internet. But I'm speaking mainly from a developer p.o.v. so I may be wrong...
