Yesterday my Dad took me to see the Leyburn Sprints. Its a anual event at Leyburn, a small town about 60km from my home town of Toowoomba. Basically, a few urban streets are set aside for 2 days of motor racing. Its time trials, so each car gets to blast around the track as fast as they can, and at the end of the day the times are compared to pick winners for each class. Most cars are vintage, and there were some real classics ranging from early 1900's to modern day. Most would be 60's and 70's, like Datsun 1600's ( 510 ), 1800's, 240Z's, Ford Escorts, Cortina's, Falcons and Mustangs, Holden Torana's, HQ's, Fiats etc. Great day, really enjoyed watching the cars driven like they should be. Would highly recommend the event to any interested in cars. Glenn http://www.leyburnmotorsprints.com.au/ The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Glenn l have been to leyburn sprint few years ago and next year l might take my 1984 Mercedes Benz for run next year. I previously had a 1970 6.3 300 SEL, but i unfortunatly sold it which i regret, it should never have been sold. Tell Bob that you will enter your Monaro next year amd not your holden commodore. All the best Dwyer |

Yeah I think the Monaro would be more fun than the Commodore. Chances are the Commodore would be quicker, modern suspension and all that, but the Monaro would be faster down the straights and a lot more fun It was good to see all the Datsuns. I've had a 1600, 180SSS, 240Z Series 1 and a Bluebird. The best car I ever had was the 1600, but the 180SSS and Bluebird came with good times too. The 240Z was in sad condition when I bought it, and I never finished the project before I sold it, but I heard recently it was restored and in good hands.
