Denmark imposes world's first fat tax

DENMARK has become the first country in the world to impose a fat tax, after a week in which consumers hoarded butter, pizza, meat and milk to avoid the immediate effects.

The new tax, designed by Denmark's outgoing government as a health issue to limit the population's intake of fatty foods, adds three dollars a kilo to the price of saturated fats in a product.

This add about 40 cents to the price of a pack of 250 grams of butter.

The new tax will be levied on all products including saturated fats, from butter and milk to pizzas, oils, meats and pre-cooked foods, in a costing system that Denmark's Confederation of Industries says is a bureaucratic nightmare for producers and outlets.

Why we can't Stupid Australian politician use a Fat Food Tax instead of Stupid Carbon Tax No wonder there is so many fat wrappers walking around the shopping centres but 30 years ago was a rare sighting

Hi Dwyer

It is not just fat that is the problem, those economy sized people in the shopping center are fueled by processed junk food of all types, full of chemicals and flavor enhancers and sugar saturated soft drinks lollies and cakes, the natural fats in butter unprocessed meat and dairy products have been around since the start of mankind and as you noted people 50 years ago did not suffer from obesity as now.

I came from a farming family that lived on dairy products and natural fats with no harm to their health, so it is time to look at the modern diet of consumer targeted junk food and tax that, but what a commercial hue and cry that would cause. The only harm to their health was caused by chemical poisoning of several sorts and lead poisoning in WW2. Still surviving 1 aunt 101 yo uncles 4 of the youngest is 85 the oldest is 93.

The Fat Tax administered by a Politician or a Pubic Serpant would be just as stupid as the Carbon Tax they are promoting now.

All the best

Hi Bob
Yes you are 100% correct. Since I was a small kid I remember around the 1950's in Victoria we had a milkman to deliver nice creamy milk in a billy can to my grandparent's place every couple days including fresh bread delivered by a baker's horse driven in a bread wagon. Many farmer's come from country towns in small trucks and carry shot guns in the back and they would visit the country pub to have a nice cold beer. No harrassment from Politicians or a Pubic Serpant nor member of the police force. Every Aussie was thin lookong and life was easy or hard however life now has changed over the years. 3 of us used to ride a pushbike and carry a rifle to go rabbit hunting without a gun licence (which was never invented at the time). My age at this time was 14 years old, life was great, the good old days but not anymore

Hi Dwyer

It really makes you wish we where back there and enjoying a simple life free of harassment from government, Police, and commercialism, I feel sorry for those that have not experienced that lifestyle and look to the modern rat race with it's so call tech advantages and bigger and better life comforts requiring more and more energy that once the populace is addicted to becomes an essential for life, and then is taxed accordingly.

I would at 10 years old shoot a couple of rabbits a day to feed the family, catch trout and fresh water lobsters in the creek behind the house and yabbies in the dam for a bit of a treat. The house garden provided all the vegetables and fruit for the family, and kill an occasional deer or kangaroo for meat, kangaroo sausages with garlic are truly a treat, and better than Kentucky fried rat for your health and kill a beast twice a year for meat. Free range chooks, bees, and pigs topped of the diet.

The farm grew its own wheat, oats and barley for bread and once a weak we had white bread from the baker as a treat, bartered for two pairs of rabbits. we had a dairy so plenty of milk butter and cheese all that unhealthy fat now taxed in Norway, along with smoke cured bacon and pickled pork and hams.

We had electric light 32 volt and gas light from a gas generator on the back veranda , Grandfather made a huge fridge freezer that ran on 32 volts, the home made ice cream was always there with nary a trip to a supermarket.

These days the commercial system has educated the masses to the essential use of junk food and packed instant meals that the mice prefer to eat the packet rather than the contents, and now to add insult to injury they are going to tax dairy food and unprocessed animal fats.

We find it essential to entertain the kids with electronic games and play stations to remove them from reality and train them into indifference to violence and killing. The CRETANIZER has become the baby sitter to brainwash the kids and create a sense of false reality in the young.

No more family time, or building a billy cart as they might get hurt with that or hurt the neighbors kid and end up in court being sued for some petty happening that in the past would have been ignored. Jobs for the lawyers and law makers and reason for more government regulation to strangle our freedoms all the more.

And of course to supply the power for all this we need more and more electricity, which pollutes the air by its generation and the fuel extraction, so then we need Nuke power plants because that will produce less pollution? and the pigs flew overhead.

If some of the people where to experience the lifestyle of the forties and fifties they would get a shock as to what it take to keep us happy, and how low tech innovation is more satisfying than putting a space station in orbit.

All the best

Bob
