Hey fellas, I'm looking at getting a battery bank of around 800-1000ah @48v.
I have read that too much paralleling is not good for a system as some batteries don't get an even charge.
If I were to have 4 100ah 12v in series and parallel 8-10 sets like that would it be detrimental to the batteries?
If it is not the ideal situation could that be negated by swapping the charge terminals each week/month to an alternating string of 4?Edited by renewableMark 2017-12-11

Is there some reason you want to use lots of small batteries?

Hi Dave, it's just what I have seen around, a local scrap yard has 100ah super safe batteries 4yo for $80. I'm all ears if you or others can point me to an alternative.
By your comment I assume less batteries of higher amps in series is the ideal.

But getting back to the question is running 8 strings of 4 batteries detrimental? Or is that just a plain dumb ass idea?

Be careful before you go and spend nearly $4,000 on batteries from a scrap yard. There is a very good chance they are there for a reason, they may be okay but...

I recently bought a refurbished forklift battery of similar capacity to what you are after with a 2 year warranty and at about the same price. It is made up of 24 individual 2V cells in a pack all connected in series.

Ripper, that's the kind of info I was looking for.
What company was that mate?
I'm in Melbourne, so hopefully looking for somewhere local.

I am still waiting to sort out a couple issues before I make any recommendation.
