Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I started this question over in Windmills but it started down another road dealing with TEG generators. My idea has drifted to making a trickle charge system attached to an exhaust manifold on an air cooled engine. How many and what size TEGs would it take?

Other thought that comes to mind on a different tangent;

What about CDI ignition?
An easy addition to a conventional distributor, with even the option of a 2nd backup unit.

Over here they mention a huge energy saving over conventional Kettering ignition, in which case you may be able to lower your current requirements to maybe one amp & use the 10 TEG's mentioned in the other thread.

Cheers

In 1946 in the Soviet Union they had TEG radios power by a kerosene lamp.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

The solar panel idea that someone else came up with might be worth a look too as a second power source.
There are "flexible " film solar panels available that might conform pretty well with your upper wing shape.

That one is in my head too.
That & CDI to reduce power consumption.

Updated my boat motor from Points/Kettering years ago.
The old points served me fine with never a breakdown.
Just had to set the Dwell once or twice a season.

The Electronic (Non-CDI), Dissy had one module failure, that had us paddling home.

If you went CDI it would be easy enough to have 2 modules with little weight, so there's no frantically flapping of arms.

CDI, but keep the points. They work, and would be handling much reduced current.

TEG's never entered my mind until a few months back when I saw these at Bunnings.

Anyone seen one in action?
