I actually have a StarTrac motor from a commercial treadmill, I am wanting to eventually set up for a home built Hydro Vortex generator, from what I have seen it will need to be run through a geared belt drive mechanism.
This motor puts out 18 Vdc when I spun the weighted flywheel by hand.
Anyone have an idea what it would put out by looking at the label ?

Hi Madog,
The wire is rated for continuous 8.75A. The output volts from the nameplate indicate about 24V for 350rpm.
As a hydro probably 1000-1500 rpm tops, so take the 8.75A @ say 100V, so <1000W.
The 2.5hp is at 3500rpm, divide this by about 3, so this gives about 700W.

I noted it actually says 240volt and 8.75A @ 3'500rpm, not sure if that equates to 24v @350rpm.
This project is still on the back burner.

That motor is 2kw, because it is rated for
variable speed it can run slower without
cooling loss, but efficiency losses will not
make it a linear power to voltage exponent
and as a generator it will be different again
as the winding impedance will have a greater
effect at lower voltage. Best trick is to drive
it with something like a small petrol motor or
a lathe to plot it's output over a wide speed
range. It is a brush commutator so it's life
will be a bit limited, but still good potential.Amc-elec
