Hi, I have a powerfilm rollable solar panel which is made to charge the batteries for a torqeedo kayak motor. The panel outputs 44V @ 45W. I'd also like to use this panel to charge 12V batteries and so I bought an RA-9 charge controller, but it's maximum rated open circuit voltage is 30V. My questions are: - can I ignore the maximum voltage on this charge controller and just plug it into my panel without risking the controller, my panel etc? - if not which voltage regulator would you suggest I buy or build? - could I use three of these voltage regulators in parallel? Wouldn`t advise you to connect 30v controller to 44v, you`ll let all the smoke out for sure. Advise - get a MPPT controller that handles these voltages, Plasmatronics Dingo if you are prepared to part with the cash, otherwise the cheaper Chinese ones but remember you get what you pay for. You dont say how many 12v batteries you want to charge, but you could charge 3 x 12v batteries in series direct off the panel with no charger required. Pete. Sometimes it just works |
