Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

This is the scope that I gave a buddy

he's passed away  so I got it back

I had just got it when he seen it he was really excited about it so I gave it to him

I didn't know if it worked correctly then and still don't know

He was supposed to research and figure it out

It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to turn it on

So any information would be appreciated

Follow this link for the complete manual including Servicing information.
It's 75 meg so can't upload here.

465 Oscilliscope Manual

The World Wide Wait (and Google) is a wonderful thing.

If it shows that trace with no input signal I'd say it was screwed.

Do yourself a favour and spend a few hundred bucks on a decent, modern DSO.
It will have far better specs than your CRT scope and take up far less room on the bench. Use this one as a door stop. I'm not overly nostalgic when it comes to test equipment. That scope is over 40 years old.

Doorstop? I'm thinking boat anchor...

There are a few places where an analog scope might be better than a digital one, but it's rare.

Ben, have you got leads/probes for it? First thing to try is test a square wave. It should have one on there, maybe that calibration bar perhaps? You'll have to check the manual. If you can't get that to work i would say it's stuffed.

Its stuffed Mark.

I have one of those, a 475A and its a very complicated oscilloscope to fix, and parts are difficult to come by, and expensive.
Even with the full service manual, and another good oscilloscope to use to fix that one, its going to be extremely difficult to repair.

Save up and buy a modern digital oscilloscope, you will never regret it.
Cheers,  Tony.

I had one of these years ago. The Tektronix 465/475 were a high end cro in their time and cost a fortune. Even today these are sought after by collectors and still a very useful bit of test gear.

Someone will want it, and fix it, trust me. Its mostly working. I see these on ebay for $200 plus, even with faults.

Its certainly a salable item for an enthusiast. My service manual was printed in 1982, that was 37 years ago. That is a long time for something with a lot of mechanical parts that may have been in use every day.

My 475A slowly developed numerous intermittent faults which became more and more frequent to the point that a lot of the switches and potentiometers were just plain worn out.

I like that saying Gizmo that's an Indian saying

Thanks for the help you guys

it took me a long time of turning knobs to get that Trace to come across the screen

Shows my ignorance I thought it was supposed to have a line across the screen

It normally has nothing or just one little spot

I can't afford anything else at the moment

I  was hoping to get this one to work enough to at least see the sine wave of inverters

These are all of the accessories I have for it

I have this exact scope at work. It was being thrown out by a contractor due to no display. Simple capacitor replacement sorted that. Very good bit of kit in its day. Still works well now. Get to know it. Lets face it. It was free. Free is good :-)

I know so little about it I don't even know how to test it to see if it works correctly

I followed the link above and downloaded the manual

I still haven't figured it out yet though hopefully it works good enough just a test a sine wave

Hopefully after Christmas I can save up enough money to get me something a lot less complicated

Simple scope for a simple person LOL

If I don't get it figured out here pretty soon

I think I will give it to anyone that wants to pay the for the shipping

I think that the advice that I was given above is the best thing to do
