Friends,

Had a lot of help from Oztules and others re non-starting PC PSU in a friend's PC.

Found a website, which deals with this and also the problem of how to hook two PSUs together:

http://www.directron.com/2powersupplies.html

The interesting thing was that even a new power supply had to be shorted out at the green PS-ON lead #14 and a black GND lead to start.

Does this mean the motherboard does not handle this PS-ON signal correctly as the PSU is a new one??

Merry Christmas to you all and many thanks again for the help.

Dom,

If an ATX PSU is connected to a mobo and the mobo has
its little power_on button connected, then it should power
up when pressed.

Unless, the mobo (or switch) is faulty. Which is very common.
I've found most mobo's are killed by the PSU after about two years.
I replace my PSU’s every 12months as a service task. The electrolytic
caps dry out which then puts loads of ripple on the mobo caps which
then dry out.... then the lights go out :)

sPuDd..

It should work ...in theory
