Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I've been hit by this bug about getting off the grid as well... I live in
Mexico and we have plenty sun and wind where my property is.

I would want to be on a dual system with solar panels and a windmill but
haven't seen anything related to charging circuits with both of these built
in to be use simultaneously.

I've played with the numbers a bit and think this would be the best setup
overall.

If you've any information or web site on this subject could you please
pass it along. Oh and BTW I don't mind building my own.

If you'd like I have a half built project for tracking the sun and moving
solar panels I could share.

G'day Cactii,
Welcome to the forum.
The dual system you envisage is perhaps the most widely chosen of all, so no problems there. The usual connection is both charging systems direct to the battery so it's not surprising to see no diagram of the connection.
Perhaps the only thing of note is some form of current blocking of one system flowing through the other whilst it is not in use, is needed. Typically a rectifier diode of suitable value is used.

If you have designed the solar tracking yourself then we'd be most interested to see what you have done. There has been many designs on the net over the years, so original ideas are the most appreciated.
was working fine... til the smoke got out.
