Been hot the last few days, about 40c in the shed where the battery bank, charge controller and inverter live. Couple days ago I noticed the charge controller was displaying a overheating warning light. Normally I have a pedestal fan I set up to blow air over the charge controller and inverter ( plus the inverter has its own built in fan ), but this time I tried something new. The air just above the concrete floor is much cooler, closer to 30c than the sheds 40c. So I rigged up a extraction fan in a box about 4 inches above the floor, and ran a couple PVC pipes to the inverter and charge controller. ![]() Made all the difference, the charge controller heatsink is much cooler, and the inverter fan only cuts in occasionally instead of running all day. I'll make something a bit more permanent for next summer. Glenn Edited 2024-11-08 16:55 by Gizmo The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
