Hi all,
I need some advice on how to connect these batteries,
i have two 6volts 105Ah trojan batteries which i connect to
give me 12volts.I got 18 12volt 7Ah batteries from a
ups they are all in good condition.I connect them in such a
way that iam getting 12volts from them. How do i connect the
12volts to the two 6volts that is already 12volts,my inverter
is wagan 5000watts it can only accept 12volts,any comment is
appreciated.

Hi there
you can connect all the SLA batteries in parralel, which will still
give 12 volts, ie all positives connected together and all negatives
connected together. This will add the total amp hour capacity together
for this group of cells but charging them may be difficult. SLA batteries
unlike conventional lead acid batteries only like slow charge rates, and
must be regulated to around 14.8-14.9 volts for cyclic use. It may not
present a problem with your system especially as the group rate will
be divided between the cells. It also may be influenced by the quality
of each battery relative to each other, the healthy ones have lower
impedance and then accept more charge than weaker batteries, and
on the cycle goes. When connecting multiple batteries in parralel it
is definately worth putting a separate fuse on each battery. This is
critical to prevent a fire caused by a cell failure in any battery where
an internal short becomes an incendiary fed by the remaining batteries.
Rate each fuse by the amount of load expected, and charge rate, then
go about 50% higher in amps. If you group all the SLA batteries in parralel
you can connect them in parralel with your two six volt batteries connected
in series, as 12v. Just remember never parralel different voltages.
Best or luck.
