Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi,

I am placing an entry into an electric vehicle challenge & was wondering about the suitability of using a F&P motor as a hub motor (driven as a 36V stepper motor). Has anyone tried this & is it suitable?

Yes I have tried it. See http://www.thebackshed.com/mackaysolarcar/index.html
We gave up on the idea after several month trying. Problems with the mosfets blowing. The mosfets work in a 3 phase H bridge configuration, the high side driver is a fiddly beast.
But I think it could be done, we just ran out of time.
