does anybody know where to buy the copper wire used for making windings for an alternator Please.

Hi Greg, Try this , Yellow pages and find a motor re-wirer in your area, go along ,maybe with a six pack or a dozen beers, and ask if you could exchange them for some "end-of spool" copper winding wire that they can't use . Take along your stator and explain what you are doing ,you might find the boss very interested,thats what I did.
If you don't get enough wire on one spool ,you could join and solder lengths together and heatshrink over the joint ,reckon for our purposes, this is satisfactory--Bruce ducks,lol.
