Received this last year but only just decided to test it: ![]() Terminal connected to the PicoMite immediately. Could be an alternative for those wanting to use something like a RPi 4/5 as a master controller. Got rid of the supplied launcher and replaced it with NOVA launcher. This package came with a mini-keyboard/air-mouse that I didn't particularly care about but I'm liking it. The tiny keyboard has a wonderful response (click) and now that I'm getting used to the air-mouse, pretty cool. ![]() |

Just to be clear before I buy one, you are using this with a USB version of the Pico firmware and it works correctly using the supplied dongle? Edited 2025-02-23 22:52 by matherp |

Similar remote used in this 'Pico Computer'. Will be interested in seeing if there is a 'dongle remote' that mimics a USB keyboard and a USB mouse - this would allow a really nice 'Portable Computer' to be built based on a PicoMite |

No but that's an interesting thought. All my PicoMites are bare so I can't test. All I've accomplished is to prove that the TV Box talks to the PicoMite. Only used the air-mouse and KB with the Android device and found that it also works with my Win11 machine. However, I do have an issue with the RFO-BASIC! language editor because the Load/Run/Save menu doesn't show-up (something to do with it being a TV Box I guess). My own Android apps appear to run (built on another machine) but I can't (yet) edit on this device. Not really a problem because I prefer to develop on the PC anyway. I see that there are now even lower-priced alternatives. Mind-blowing value-for-money. And several options for BASIC languages ![]() |

The Allwinner H3 versions of these cheap Android Smart TV boxes run BASIC Engine out of the box. They were a cheap option for a boot-to-BASIC computer. |

I have several Android TV boxes. If somebody loads MMBasic onto them, please post the steps you did to accomplish that! |

Turns out that the aforementioned menu is simply off-the-screen. The Box isn't recognizing the screen limits of my 1080p monitor. Now, the RFO-BASIC derivative, Oli-BASIC supports keyboard commands. |

One of many articles that came-up with a search. Linux might be the best way to go. |

I had managed to get Armbian to work on a TV box (X96 Mini Smart TV BOX). There would certainly be a possibility to get MMB4L running here Edited 2025-02-24 20:10 by Martin H. 'no comment |

I rather like this idea. Using Android boxes for TV seems such a waste when they could be used for running linux. :) The IO expansion looks a bit limited for me though. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

The cost of a new box is cheaper than a RPi (especially when you take the PSU and case into consideration) with the same memory but it has no output expansion. Could be a pretty useful linux gaming platform though, if enough of the hardware that's in it is supported. Yes, it's a faff but the designers never considered that someone might want to use it to run Ubuntu, I suppose. :) "Because it's there". :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

I'm loving the thing (typing on it right now) but for my purpose it will serve only as a user-interface. The PicoMite can handle the I/O and so I can choose between BlueTooth, USB or WiFi to talk to the Mite. |

I have also considered installing “OctoPrint for Android” on a 20$ box to remotely control the 3d printers. It's definitely cheaper than a Raspberry 'no comment |
