Gents, may have to move to Perth shortly, whats the wind like over there?
any suggestions for a reasonable suburb, the missus will be working in the city and I would like a block big enough for a wind turbine.. Luck favours the well prepared

Hi Karl,,
I don't live there ,but,,,, I've been there many times and from my visits , I've seen very good steady winds most days ,especially after miday
My son lives at Morely, around 30 minutes from the cbd, and thats faily windy..
Allan,, another guy that somtimes posts topics here, lives down south, approx 2hours way.
Perth is a fairly spread out city,be lucky if you can get acerage..
Cheers,

Karl, I live in Perth.
The city is known for its 'Fremantle Doctor', an often rather strong sea breeze. This can get a bit gusty if one lives away from the coast and it sometimes does not blow very far away from the coast.
Then there are the strong easterlies that roar down the hills over night, again rather gusty.
A large block near the city would be rather expensive and, if its in millionaire's row you might have a battle to get permission for a windmill mast.
I live about 2km from the coast, on the eastern side of a hill and cannot see the ocean. I have a small Lenz2 to play with, its up on a 6m mast behind the house and not easily seen from the road, hence no complaints yet.
Look for a block with easy access to the train lines, commuting into the city by car is no fun...

Karl, south of Perth, Google Armadale road and look around that, there are still some small acreages where you will get good ESE o/n and sea breezes and might get away with a turbine.
Stones throw from the southern freeway and rail, good groundwater.

OK well confirmed, Wife starts on the 15 March in Perth
If anyone cares to do some legwork over there I need a 4bed place in reasonable nick for upto $500pw.
I hear the city is full of crack heads but further than 30mins from the city is getting tougher to justify.

I have a friend who lives in Perth on "millionaire row" as Tinker puts it and owns a ginormous sailboat, so my guess is there's wind in Perth. This fellow sails Trans-Pac a lot and could live anywhere in the world, but chooses Perth, so like I said, there's probably lots of wind there.

Beauty! average windspeed at 5.66m/s at the airport
wind is a winner.
Had the estate agent over to rent our place in Highett, they are keen to sell it at $700K and we paid $500K 3 years ago, should be sufficient to buy a block of dirt big enough for an 8m tower, thinking the yet to be released Phillm / Gordon AXFX-400.....mmmmmLuck favours the well prepared

I live on a rural block about 8k from the coast & 30k from Perth(East Wanneroo) we seem to get too much wind most days especially when that Freo Doctor gets going, there are still quite a few 'special rural' blocks of about 2 acres around here. 5 minute drive to train station.

It seems Perth is the third windiest city in the world!
Oh anyone know what a 30pack of Tooheys red sells for over there?
I could buy in bulk before I leave at about $29 a carton, so if its $45 a carton over there I'll get a few.Edited by KarlJ 2010-02-13Luck favours the well prepared

G'day Karl,
It's a shame you aint moving to Adelaide as 3 doors up is a 90 acres block on top of the hill going for about 400K. 2K out of the metro area and no services apart from rubbish bin collection and yet less than an hour from the Adelaide GPO.

HI Karl
Im in Perth myself for the next couple of months, just around the corner from where im staying there are some 2 acre blocks not that far from the city a suburb called Ballajurra in the shire of Swan, I'll check if there is anything going around there, its very close to the Malaga light industrial area with all the hardware etc etc you could wish for & I just picked up another F&P from the local Good Guys electrical store 2 Ks away.
I'll get back to you with an idea of prices if anything looks promising.
Cheers
