the way I see it

you should be able to pull 50-60% out of the battery every night and fully charge it every day from
two to five years or more
400kwh to 1000kwh
60c/kwh to 25c/kwh for battery costs
I would be happy with that, you are not going to beat that unless you go to top of the range gel$ or lithium cell$. Then you need to get 10-15 years out of them, a lot can happen in 10 years!

compare this to wet lead acid costs, the forklift cells are about the same because they are cheap to buy, but most of the WLA's are 35c/kwh to $1.00/kwh range.

if you are going to leave it sit then try hooking a charger to one of those rotary timers and give it 15 minutes charge time a day.

Just use them for the reason you purchased them and when they stop doing the job turf them out and get some replacements.

Glance at the voltage regularly, cycle any relays or contactor once a month and check for dirty or loose connections several times a year, that should be the sum total of maintenance you need to do, anything more than that is probably tinkering and time-wasting.
