Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

On principle, I use a powered hub for all my micromites.
It protects the PC ports from physical and electrical damage.

I also prefer external power.

@ Rob - I have just ordered a couple of those USB power meter things. I don't have one, and I can see this being useful too.

@ Jim - Yes, this is probably the easiest way forward, PROVIDED that the powered USB hubs don't also require handshaking on power back to the computer. If the ports on a powered hub are always powered from the external plug-pack, fine. But how do we know that is the case? IE: Perhaps the device has to request the higher power just as it would if plugged in directly? The hub itself would probably intercept that request and handle the power, but every bloody hub is a different design!

As another solution, I have also been using some of those USB battery banks to power MM Plus Backpacks with a 2.8" LCD without any problem. The packs I have monitor (and display) power usage on them, not as much info as the USB Power monitors (which I also use).

I sometimes have had the opposite problem when running them with low power requirements (LCD backlight off or not connected) the pack thinks it is not powering anything and shuts down.

Make sure you get one that has USB data pass-through.
There are some that are for power only

I've got one or two like that. Most annoying. Limits their use somewhat. Running an extra load on them to keep them on seems wasteful.

Dear matherp,

I was tplanning to upgrade my 16F1455 to request 500mA.
I looked at the hex file, but could not recognize he line to replace.
My 1.18 hex file is taken from the microbridge construction pack.

See below snip from the hex file.

Could you provide a link to the correct hex file?
