Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

@Grogster:

...that's why I'm label all the pins like that:

TxD_PC / RxD_PC or TxD_µC / RxD_µC

I much prefer the SPI labels. MISO and MOSI

+1

I use them to distinguish, even though it is not strictly correct to do so on bog-standard serial.

What I also do (as I use a 3.5mm stereo jack for console connections) I use the old Tip/Ring notation as Tx/Rx but always wrt the PC end.Edited by CaptainBoing 2019-03-27

But (and I guess I should look it up), I've never known what MISO and MOSI stood for, so have the same problem as with Rx and Tx.

I'm guessing that in this context, MISO isn't "a traditional Japanese seasoning produced by fermenting soybeans with salt and koji (the fungus Aspergillus oryzae)".

Ok, for those as ignorant as I was before searching, MOSI: Master Out, Slave In; MISO: Master In, Slave Out. (Now if you can just get past the connotations of the historical meanings of master and slave.)

Sorry, I should have defined what they meant. I just assumed you would know.
I have tended to adopt the SparkFun method for serial lines: TXO and RXI.
TXO is serial out, and RXI is serial in.
