Hey Mik. ![]() See my link to it at the top of this page. I have the new Western Digital SSD ready for it, I am just waiting for the special SATA cable to arrive for my wee machine, then I can get to cloning. ![]() I've even installed Macrium Reflect on the wee thing ready for when the cable comes. Hopefully, it will arrive next week. You might be surprised about the embedded SSD's of the 32GB and 64GB flavours. They often ARE soldered directly to the motherboard, and there is no socket of any kind to remove them - they are part of the overall motherboard. This cuts a few more cents from the production, as you don't need to pay for an M.2 socket or similar to be fitted to the board. Yes, totally agree with you on the bigger SSD's being M.2, but the tiny wee ones are mostly bonded directly to the mainboard and are not removable or upgradable for that reason. ![]() Smoke makes things work. Grogs, I have one of those small (underpowered) convertible touch screen laptops and it has a piddly 32gb ssd. I always thought I could replace it.. I might pull it apart to see what it has inside. Mik Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Grogs, I just read up (thanks to Dr Google) and it seems you are right the ‘drive’ is in a BGA that holds the memory and RAM .. Good luck upgrading that.. At least you have an option to supplement the drive.. I hope it works.. Mik Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Yes, so do I! ![]() I am reasonably confident it will, once fitted with the special SATA cable, the machine should then see the 120GB WD Green SSD as another drive, and then I should be able to clone from the embedded one, to the WD one, and then set the machine to boot from the WD one. .....then Windoze CAN do all the updates it wants. ![]() Nice to see you around the forums again. I don't recall seeing you post much lately - or is that just me.... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

UPDATE: - New cable has arrived. - I have cloned the embedded SSD to the new 120GB SSD with Macrium Reflect. - The clone completed successfully. C drive now has about 105GB free. - Enter BIOS and change boot order so that the new WD SSD is the first boot device. - Move the embedded SSD right to the bottom of the list. Machine still INSISTS on booting from the embedded 32GB drive. Nothing I try will make it boot from the new clone. You cannot disable the embedded drive in the BIOS. All you can do, is move it to the 7th place in the boot order past everything else. Does anyone know how you can get around this issue? I need the machine to boot from the new WD drive, not keep on booting from the internal one, or I won't gain anything. ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

ANOTHER UPDATE: - Reboot, and use F12 to enter BIOS's boot manager, select WD drive and boot from that. OK, now in Windoze on the new cloned drive. Download MiniTool, and delete all partitions on the embedded SSD. Create new volume called INTERNAL spanning all 32GB. Reboot. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

HI - Yep I'm ok thanks; just VERY busy with some exciting new stuff! ![]() I do keep a very keen eye on all posts, but try to stay out of things as my focus is on lots of other MM stuff - I will chime in if I feel it adds value! Doing lots of Armmite testing for Peter - and building up stock of the STM modules ![]() Magazine series keeping me busy, and arranging a MM event in UK for later this year (hopefully). Anyway - I don't want to go off topic (sorry OP) . . . . WW |

Quite..... System drive is now 58GB in size - with NO applications installed. This is with the new update applied. It does make you wonder WHY the update(16GB) would be bigger then the phucking operating system itself..... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |
