Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I agree, cut the extra components off and I don't see the earth connection to the body of the holder.

Okay, guys, it is working now.

I tried a lot of stuff, but I think the culprit was a cold solder joint on one of the connector legs on the UBW32. I resoldered them all, after which it worked. At the same time I used a breadboard power-thingy, and used the 5V from that instead of USB.

But my thoughts go to the soldering

Thanks for all your help, but it was probably my fault!

As a side note, I cannot save - it says that the SD is write protected. Will look into that!

The cannot save thing is one of those two pins I was telling you to ground.  One of those pins is used to detect 'card present' and the other 'write protect'.

Proper working SD card adapters have two tiny switches: one senses a card inserted and the other senses the little sliding plastic 'write protect' tab on the side of the SD card.

I forget which way the write protect input works - maybe it has to be grounded, or maybe left floating.  Anyway, you only have four possibilities to try to find what you need that indicates 'card present and not write protected'.

What exactly does work now?

Did you modify (cut off) this chinese sd module or did you finally get a blank sd socket?

Could you please show a picture, I would really like to see your complete setup.
