Hi hitsware, I succeeded in making a Raspbian Buster image run MMbasic. On a Pi3. I tried several times to create the Raspbian Buster image on a Pi zero, and was not able to, probably because of my lousy linux skills. When I tried to make the Pi3 created image autoboot into MMbasic, I must have made a mistake (overwriting something...easy becauae everything you do must be sudo'ed, and that means an error is fatal). That discouraged me. I did get a Debian/Raspbian Stretch working MMbasic image on a 32 Gbyte card (a donation from a forum member..thanks!). Since this worksd I don't want to touch it. But I could make a copy if you like. But it does not autoboot into MMbasic, and I am not trying to make it. Learned my lesson. I may be able to shrink it down (the Debian image is rather small, but at first boot it expands to the full 32Gbyte card size...another anoyance, why do people do that ??...). But I could try using Gparted and shrink it back to it's small size (2Gbyte or so). But please keep in mind that MMbasic on the Pi(zero) is no as fast as the ARMmiteH7 (or even de ARMmiteF4). It is just 2x faster than a MX170. A Pi4 will be significantly faster. Also keep in mind that when you would port it on raspbian lite, you are bound to use the console to do everything in linux. I had no problem a few days ago installing Raspbian Buster Lite headless on a pi zero-w, and then running matherp's Buster release of MMBasic. I haven't attempted stripping it down because I like and use the Linux features, and boot-up speed is not an issue for me. Hi, please take a look at this: BMC64 This is an emulator for C64, C16, VIC20, PET2001 and other computers for the Raspberry Pi programmed as baremetal. NO DEBIAN! ...for PI1, PI2, PI3, PI ZERO and very fast!!! They used "CIRCLE" for it - apparently it takes a lot of work off... A baremetal version of MBASIC would be fantastic! |
