Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Thanks Jim,

Not all files, just some. It proved to be the TAB character in one file.
That clears it up for me.

Thanks again.

Another update to MMEdit V4.1.4

When I started with MMEdit 10 years ago, a BAS program of 1000 lines was considered large.
Now that is relatively common so I had to speed up some of the routines.

One example of a big time saving for large files:
During a LOAD, I only check the first 1k of the file to determine line ending used instead of the whole file.

There were other places where I had been aggressively testing for unlikely events. All taking time.

There are a couple of options in Preferences that allow you to turn of backup file creation etc to save time on slow PCs.

V4.1.4 has had a lot of minor tweaks so there is always the chance that I have broken something.

https://www.c-com.com.au/MMedit.htm

In case you missed it, MMEdit now has word-wrap. Display only, it doesn't touch the file so no compatibility issues.

I am sorry you are having trouble. There is nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

VirusTotal gives it a good report with only one out of 68 scanners getting upset.

Jim,

I had to load mmedit on my new pc and had an extended fight with Norton, really hard to get it on my pc.. even after disabling auto protect Norton would kill the file immediately on download.

I ended up changing from Firefox to edge and was able to get it but had to punch my way through 5 or 6 warnings (not Norton seemed to be w10 ones)...

This is crazy, even Dexpcb goes through these things too..

Regards,

MICK

Unfortunately, false-positives seem to be on the rise with a lot of AV software at the moment.  I don't know why.  I don't use any of those AV's anymore, I just use the built-in AV that comes with Win10 - on this one remaining W10 machine I still have.

Sometimes, I get a complaint from W10 saying it has prevented the running of an app as W10 thinks it is suspicious etc, but there is a button you can click to "Run anyway", and I just select that.  Once you do that, W10 never asks you about it again.

Hi Jim , bigmik and Grogster

I only could download the portable-zip and this was tricky. I switched to Chrome , but could only download it in Incognito-mode.
Check md5sum --> OK
Extract the archive and an virus alarm --> TFTcolour.exe

MMEdit seems to be OK , now i can test

Best regards ,

TFTcolour.exe isn't needed so everything should work OK.

VirusTotal gives 5 out of 68 scanners not liking it. That's one more than the version that is in V3.8.1 of MMEdit. Those results are typical for any of my programs.

Hi Jim,

I use MMedit all the time, and I think it is great!

I was wondering if there is a place where people can put up MMedit feature requests for upvote/downvote?

With an over-riding vote from you that it is something you are interested in doing of course!

Cheers,

I was going to put forward the 'line continuation' idea that was discussed a little while back. Some people seemed keen, others not so much, and the thread got to suggesting some ideas of what the character/characters should be and how it could work, but then interest seemed to fall away.

The reason I suggest a particular place is that it would serve as a somewhere where multiple ideas could be listed, and people would have a chance to see what was planned (and what had been done - which is an awful lot), or add ideas, or poo-poo others. Currently many threads have excellent MMedit ideas buried within them that pop up from something completely unrelated... and accordingly the thread title has no hint of the buried gold within.

If I want to see if an idea has been suggested, I can't go looking through all threads ever posted to find that out. Some suggestions may be easy. Some may be impossible. It would be good to have a list with possibly some comments from you, the author of MMedit. For example:

Line Continuation: short description & reference to thread/s.
Difficulty = high. Upvotes = 2. Downvotes = 3. Compatibility issues (does it break how MMedit currently works/can it be integrated without breaking legacy code) = ??

I did consider perhaps talking to the author of #REPLACE (which obviously ties in well with MMedit) and asking for the source so I could modify it to do 'line continuation', but that is a separate rabbit hole that I didn't want to get lost down!

Cheers,

Gerry does provide the source for his #REPLACE code. It is included in the package.
MMEdit now does wordwrap which does much of what line continuation would do.
For many reasons, I will not go down that road.

I don't own a MAC
I can't afford a MAC
I don't want a MAC

MMEdit runs under Wine for Linux and I believe that it works with whatever the MAC equivalent is.
