Pretty much horses for courses, of course. Adding bigger CPUs and more storage puts more load on the battery so either life falls off or you need a bigger battery too. Laptops are always trying to get as much life as they can out of a charge, It's not CPU throttling kicking in to save battery is it? (or just clogged with dust so it's not cooling).
