Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Mick,
Sounds like the NUC is a few years old, considering it’s using a 120 GB HD. I would suspect one or more chips are running hot. You could:
1. Boot off a Linux live thumb drive and run sysbench, which can independently stress test the CPU, memory and hard drive https://github.com/akopytov/sysbench
Or
2. Remove the heat sink and/or thermal tape, clean the old stuff off and reapply thermal grease and/or thermal tape

can't find 64bit twister os.
trixie 64bit is good, I'm watching startrek ds9 dvd box set on 64gb pen drive and it's perfect.

so not a waste
note matching kb,mouse usb ssd, and pendrive

It's not a Pico forum, it's a "Microcontroller and PC Projects" forum (see title). Any project using either of those fits in, obviously. It's actually a really broad field. :)

As there isn't a Backshed forum for discussing the hardware of the controllers themselves (PCs or microcontrollers) rather than projects using them then they also come here. :)

Hi Stan,

The ~ tilde key is next to the Enter key.

Hope this helps.

Symbols can be a pain, Stan.

Are your RPi and keyboard both set to the same language? For English it should be "Generic 101-key PC English (UK)" - use raspi-config. It's usually set to this by default.

Is there a tilde on the keyboard? It should be right next to the Enter key, with the hash symbol.

it's the rpi 400 keyboard and in trixie the ~ is shifted # next to enter same as win usb keyboard.
installing twister os 3.01 first blue tooth mouse is enabled but doesn't work so usb mouse and no key acts as ~ which is used in wifi password so no wifi. plugging in usb keyboard doesn't work. I gave up on the latest twister install, it falls over eventually in setup but installs.
64 bit trixie is working fine enough for me to recommend it on rpi400 although I was a twister os fan...

ok tried to install twister os again with usb mouse and it was the same screen too big for 17" display,
the menu button is hidden but got it up and wow! all options so lowered screen res and found ~ is | so wifi working. got bluetooth mouse working.
so many options,

@hitsware2' got trixie 64  and twister os both on 120 usb3 ssd so swapping easy.
imho trixie is better, well my choice. make your own.
I loaded cura to see speed and wine and 6 other wine things and gparted loads of stuff to test. for a rainy day, looking like twister with lots of apps. themes don't seem a big deal as one nice one.
it's just a smooth pc thinggy

I don't know what Twister OS is based on, but unless there's been a new version recently I'd guess at Debian 12 (Bookworm). Debian 13 (Trixie) has a lot of updates and changes so I'd expect it to run better.
